Fishermen locate fish using native knowledge passed down by Elders which includes being able to read the weather and know fish patterns and cycles. Fishermen also steer boats and know how to navigate in open water. They need to be able to maintain their boat engines, fishing gear, and other onboard equipment by making minor repairs. Fishermen provide a great source of food and sustenance for people in their village all year round with ice fishing in the winter.
